I’m back from my five day speaking tour in Dallas, and today, I want to share some ideas with you about creating content.  Generating content is a topic that is many of my clients and a few in my Mastermind Group are currently struggling with.  I’ve gotten many questions about creating content in the past week.

First, you HAVE to do MORE content marketing.  Some common objections I hear about generating content are:

  • There is a lot of content in the world already.
  • Someone may have already written something on a topic that you want to write about.
  • You may have concerns that people may not care to hear what you have to say on the subject.
  • Someone else knows more about the topic than you do.

  • Overcome Your Objections: Don’t let fear that your content isn’t good enough hold you back from generating more content. Remember, there are billions of people on the planet and you only have to attract a small portion of that entire population to have them hear your message and buy from you.  Some people don’t realize that they can find content on the Internet, YouTube, Facebook, blogs, etc.  And some people may like your content more than others.  There will be enough people who will like what you have to say.
  • RePurpose Your Content – everywhere and in many different ways. If you write an article, post it on your website’s blog and have it scheduled to post on your social media sites, post it on LinkedIn Pulse,  create a video about it – just like I’m doing here.   You can also post your video to your blog on your website and on your social media sites.  There are many ways to have just one piece of content touch many in a variety of different ways.

Video Biz Tip: Ideas for Creating Content in Your Marketing!

If you are struggling to come up with content topics, I recommend you develop a list with the top 12 topics that would make sense for you to talk about. For example, if you are in the Beauty Industry, your topics might include: skincare, chemicals in products, hairstyles, etc.   Got it?  Now take each of your top 12 topics and break down each topic into 3-5 sub-topics because your main topic might be too broad to use. Sometimes you’ll be able to break down your sub-topics include 3-5 additional sub-topics.  This method will give you more options to create content about.

You don’t have to write all of your content.  You can record yourself talking about it and have it transcribed.  Once you edit the transcription, it becomes a form of written content.  I hope this gets your juices flowing and get your content ideas going.

In my quick video tip today, I want to share with you my Secrets to Creating Virtual Programs That Sell ~ hosting your own virtual programs.  These are Group programs, they can be done via phone, video or webinar.

secrets to create your virtual programsThis was a big topic of interest with many of the members of my Live Big Mastermind group at our retreat a couple of weeks ago. Many of the questions were around converting one-on-one programs and local programs to a virtual program so they can reach more people globally.  They wanted to know how to change from trading dollars for hours and move beyond just serving people locally.

So here are my tips to creating those Virtual Programs:

  1. MindsetGet Over Your Over- Thinking – you may think that what you have to offer is just not good enough or compelling enough.  Or you may be thinking it won’t serve the needs of people when created virtually. Get Over It.  Unless you are a hands on practitioner, you CAN do create a great virtual program.  Case in point, I have a client who is a piano teacher and they produce learning videos.  You don’t have to necessarily provide services in person these days.  You just have to get comfortable creating virtual programs.  It will save you time and freedom in your schedule and allow you more leverage in paid opportunities.  Simply stated – make more money in a shorter amount of time!
  2. Technology – don’t let the fear of learning a new technology hold you back.  Figure out what you need to learn.  Technology has advanced and is more user friendly.
  3. Knowledge of How to Create your Program – start with your Signature System.  Do you take people through a process or modules that you use to teach or coach people?  You may need some help brainstorming with someone to pull out the information to create your Signature System.  Then you design the Program around it.

The bottom line is this – You can make more money in a different way in a different business model if you’ll just start.  Don’t make excuses – forget “it’s just not the right time”, don’t wait until next year.

Today I want to share with you ways of being prepared when you attend Live Events!  One HUGE mistake I’ve observed is that many people focus only on giving people their business card. WRONG!  Sure, give people your card if they ask for it but giving people your business card is NOT something you want to concentrate on doing.  You should be concentrating on RECEIVING other people’s business cards!

Now – what do you do with all of those cards?  Well, I talked about follow up in some of my recent videos and you really should go listen to those videos to know more about what you should actually be doing in your follow up from live events and networking events!

ways to make money during live eventsBut today, I’m talking about something different – I’m talking about being prepared to MAKE THE SALE!  To make and take MONEY when you are at Live Events. If you are a Coach, Consultant, an Author, a Speaker, or maybe you have a network marketing business, there’s probably something you can sell at a Live Event. It’s something you need to have on hand when you attend Live Events!  It’s an EASY YES OFFER!  The price point is less than $100.  The key is to be prepared to take money.

Sure you can accept cash or checks, but you NEED to be prepared to accept credit cards. Swipe attachments on your phone to accept credit cards is ok if you are selling jewelry or something like that. However, if you are an Author, a Coach, Consultant or a Speaker, you REALLY need a shopping cart and you need to have an Order Form!  Listen to the video to learn the various types of Order Forms you can create and have on hand and why this is a much better method than directing them to your website.

Keep the Order Form tucked away in your bag – it’s not something you are going to pass around like your business card.  But you need to have it ready if someone is a HOT PROSPECT! The EASY YES OFFER is the best way to go.

Most people don’t do enough follow up and those people are missing out on Thousands and Thousands of Dollars! You need to start learning a system to improve your Follow up and to attract more people from the networking events you attend.

4 Ways to follow up Events & Speaking GigsIf you are going to spend time at a networking event, if you speak at a networking event, or if you are an exhibitor or a sponsor at a networking event and you have a display table, you have to make the effort to maximize your return of your investment of time and money to be at that event. You want to capture as many leads as possible.

I’m listing these types of LEADS into 3 categories as follows:

  • Hot Leads – you want to capture as many HOT leads as possible. You want to talk with the 3 or 4 people who want to book you for a speaking event or hire you. Follow up with them FIRST!
  • Warm Leads – these are the people who will likely buy from you or book you as a speaker within the next 6 months to a year.
  • Cold Leads – are the ones who might start watching for your emails and learning from you. Something in their life may shift and they will want to hire you. This can take from 1 to 5 years or more to convert these prospects into buyers.

When following up, you CANNOT rely solely on your email marketing these days. Some people think they only have to put these prospects on an email list. They are WRONG and you have to be careful not to spam people – get more information on this in the video. You need to start putting your mailing address on your business card as well as your phone number, your email list and website information. This is why…

There are 4 Methods of Follow Up:

  • Email – your digital newsletter and other email communication that relates specifically to them.
  • Phone – remind them you sent an email with a freebie they were looking for.
  • Direct Mail – send them a note that says, “It was great to meet you, let’s have a phone conversation so I can learn more about you.”
  • Social Media – send a message to them to check their email for what you sent to them.

You have to approach your follow up marketing in different ways. Why? Because people are busy, they are as busy as you are! So make sure you are following up in those 4 different ways after every event. Get your system organized NOW!

I’m sharing with you today some quick business tips about Tradeshows and doing Table Displays at Expos and Events.

tradeshows - make money - get leadsThese are tips that will help you at tradeshows, expos, and events, whether you have 20 people attending and you have a table in the room or whether you are doing a full conference expo and there are rows of vendors.

I’ve been talking to a few of my clients on this specific topic and I’ve found that they are unprepared for the events they have coming up.  Because I’ve been working on this with them, I wanted to share tips with you!

There are SO many things to think about doing – BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER an Event.


  • See if there is a Facebook, LinkedIn or Google + Page for the event. Start networking before the event.  Start building relationships in advance.


  • Make sure you have a strategy to get in front of as many people as possible.  HINT: Some of the Vendors might need you too!


  • There is SO MUCH follow up to do after the event! I have a strategy for you for that!

You may have received some training and researched proper interviewing techniques. You know all about how to ask legal questions and how to stay away from the illegal questions. Putting that knowledge into practice is when the fear grips you. “How will I know which candidate is the right choice?” This stuff is hard! Every candidate has researched the “correct” answer to the standard interview questions.

Below are Rebecca Barnes-Hogg’s favorite three (works EVERY time) modified versions of standard questions that will determine the right fit and the right choice for your business:

1. Instead of “What are your weaknesses?” ask “Could you tell me about a time you lacked the knowledge or skill to complete a task?” What you really need to know is how a candidate responds to change, faces challenges, approaches learning opportunities, and if they can problem solve. You won’t get that when you ask about weaknesses.

2. Instead of “How do you stay motivated?” ask “Could you tell me about a time you had to do something you
didn’t want to do?” This question tells you how a candidate deals with adversity, what happens when things that do not come easily for them, how they work with others, as well as what motivates them. The standard answers won’t tell you anything useful about the candidate’s attitude or behavior.

3. Instead of “What are your strengths?” ask “Could you describe for me your greatest accomplishment or the thing of which you are most proud?” The answer to this question will give you insights into whether the candidate is collaborative, if they take personal responsibility for the quality of their work, how they solve problems, and what happens when they face obstacles. The standard answers won’t allow you to differentiate candidates.

These questions are experiential rather than hypothetical. How a candidate answers provides insights into their thinking and feelings. Not only do you want to know about their behavior, but you also need to know what prompted the behavior. These questions give you a TRUE picture of how candidates have performed in specific situations. Your goal is to make sure that the candidate fits your company. Remember: You cannot train for personality or fit so don’t put yourself or the candidate through that pain.
